Gun Lube vs. EWL vs. EWL30 - Which should I use?

Gun Lube vs. EWL vs. EWL30 - Which should I use?

A quick answer is:

Gun Lube is for the person that doesn’t go to the range very often, and when they do they only shoot a few boxes of ammo and pack up.

EWL is for those that want their AR or pistol to run 1000+ rounds a day and easily wipe their gun clean.

EWL30 is for the shooter running suppressed rifles and pistols and need a lubricant that stays in place and keeps working under pressure.

The Gun Lube vs EWL vs EWL30 comparison has been a very common question we get when customers are shopping our lubricants, but we have never published a real in-depth answer to this question. We’ll go over each use case we have for each of our lubricants, some technical details, and what we recommend you get based on your shooting habits. There is really no wrong choice when it comes to our gun lubricants and we are strong believers that everyone has their own preference. These are simply our views on who each of these lubricants are for.

What makes Gun Lube Different?

Gun Lube is for the person that wants to keep their guns in fully functional and ready, but they don’t go to the range very often. This lubricant is odorless, making it perfect for hunters and those that don’t particularly enjoy their safe smelling like chemicals. If your guns are stored more than they see the range, Gun Lube is all you need.

Gun Lube is a lubricant first and foremost, but it also functions as a CLP. It will penetrate beneath carbon and powder fouling and help lift these deposits off the surface of the metal. After the metal is clean, Gun Lube bonds with the metal and creates an even and smooth surface that prevents fouling from adhering to the metal, and levels out any micro-imperfections in the metal’s surface that would otherwise create friction. Gun Lube is around a 10wt in viscosity, 100% pure synthetic, and will never get sticky or tacky.

What Makes EWL Different?

EWL (Extreme Weapons Lubricant) is for shooters that run their guns hard and often. Tactical trainers and those that take their classes swear by it. EWL is meant to keep your guns running, no matter the conditions. If you shoot a lot and expect the most from your firearms, then EWL is the lubricant for you.

EWL is made to penetrate deeper and lubricate longer than your average gun oil. It was built for tactical trainers and trainees who needed their rifles to run a full training session without relubrication, and eventually became a cult favorite of those who demand the best. We often hear “It’s better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.” when trying to recommend our Gun Lube over EWL to a customer who may never see the upside of using EWL.

The function of our Extreme Weapons Lubricant is similar to our Gun Lube in the sense that it penetrates and bonds with the metal and greatly reduces friction and wear, but it has an added wear property that allows it to last over twice as long as Slip 2000 Gun Lube. EWL was made as a “squirt and go” lubricant and will migrate to where it needs to go.

What Makes EWL30 Different?

EWL30, our heavy duty weapons lubricant, is for those that run suppressed and want to keep their firearm lubricated despite the increased heat and pressure that comes with it. EWL has the same properties as our EWL, but in a 30wt viscosity. If you shoot suppressed and want your bolt to stay wet and lubricated under added heat and pressure then EWL30 is the choice for you.

EWL30 excels in high heat and humid environments. The thicker consistency of the 30 makes it an easy choice for places where you want a lubricant to stay in place and stay wet. EWL30 will bond to metal surfaces, reduce friction and wear, and float carbon and powder fouling off the surface of the metal;  just like our other lubricants. EWL30 will stay wet for longer, and under harsher conditions than our EWL and Gun Lube.
